One clarification, since the names blur: this page covers ChatGPT’s agent mode, the cloud task-runner inside the chat app. ChatGPT Atlas, OpenAI’s standalone browser, was retired in 2026 and has its own migration page.

Where does each agent do its browsing?
Strawberry: the browser installed on your Mac or Windows machine, carrying every session you have. Agent mode: a virtual computer in OpenAI’s cloud, provisioned per task and signed into nothing until you intervene.
That is the difference between an agent that reaches your CRM and one that reaches a login page. Keep Awake holds the machine awake for the length of a run, so a closed lid still finishes the job.
Who stops a bad action?
You do, before it happens. Sending, posting, paying and deleting pause on an approval card showing the exact action, and Ask Always mode in Settings → AI permissions widens the gate to everything. A companion acts in tabs you can open, watch and interrupt. Our half of that is at /security.
