What else does the OneDrive surface hold?

A file half you can live in: list the drives available to you (personal, business, shared libraries) list a folder, create folders, move or rename, copy with the operation waited out to completion, read a file’s content, and delete to the recycle bin where an item can be restored.

Can a companion search inside the documents?

Yes. Search matches names and metadata by default, and asked to, it reads inside document contents (Word, Excel, PDF) which turns "find the deck where we committed to the March date" into a single question with a single answer.

Text and Office documents come back inline; images, PDFs and archives are downloaded to disk. Sharing links and permissions live in the SharePoint tools, so putting a file in OneDrive and sharing it with a vendor runs across both surfaces from one instruction.

Pull this quarter’s numbers from the dashboards you are signed into, append them to the tracker at row 151, write the commentary as a Word document, and put both in the folder the team reads. Then run it again next quarter without being asked.
