Getting Started with Strawberry
Using Strawberry
Using Strawberry
Now for the good part—actually using your Companions to get things done.
What Companions Are
Companions are AI assistants that live in your browser. They are not just chatbots—they can see what you see, understand the context of what you are doing, and take actions on your behalf.
Think of a Companion as a very capable assistant sitting next to you, looking at your screen.
Security
Your Companions process information to help you, but they respect your privacy:
- Page content is processed to answer your questions, not stored permanently
- You can clear your chat history at any time
- Sensitive pages (like banking) can be excluded from Companion access
- You control what your Companions can and cannot do
Starting Your First Chat
The easiest way to start is with Lora, the default Companion.
- Open any webpage—a news article, a product page, anything
- Press
Cmd+E(Mac) orCtrl+E(Windows) to open the sidebar - Type a question: "What is this page about?"
- Press Enter
Lora reads the page and responds. That is the core experience.
Tokens and Costs
Strawberry uses credits for AI interactions. More complex requests use more credits. You can see your balance in the profile menu, and you will get warnings before running low.
Simple questions use fewer credits. Longer conversations or actions that involve multiple steps use more.
Using Pre-Made Skills
Skills are shortcuts for common tasks. Instead of explaining what you want every time, you can use a skill that does it instantly.
Examples of skills:
- Summarize — Get a quick summary of the current page
- Extract data — Pull specific information into a structured format
- Translate — Convert the page content to another language
- Explain — Break down complex content in simple terms
Find skills in the sidebar. Click one to run it on the current page.
Normal Chat vs. Sidebar Chat with Page Context
There are two ways to chat:
Sidebar Chat (on a page)
When you have a webpage open and use the sidebar, your Companion can see that page. Ask questions like:
- "What are the main points of this article?"
- "Is this product worth buying?"
- "Summarize the comments section"
New Tab Chat (no page context)
From the New Tab page, you can chat without any page context. This is useful for:
- General questions
- Brainstorming
- Tasks that do not involve a specific webpage
Both are useful—use whichever fits what you are doing.
Searching the Web Through Companions
Your Companion can search the web for you and bring back results:
- "Find me the best noise-canceling headphones under $200"
- "What are people saying about [product name]?"
- "Search for recent news about [topic]"
The Companion searches, reads the results, and summarizes what it finds—so you do not have to open ten tabs yourself.
Working Across Multiple Tabs
Your Companion can work with multiple tabs at once. For example:
- "Compare the pricing on these three tabs"
- "Which of these products has the best reviews?"
- "Summarize all the articles I have open"
Just ask, and your Companion will look at the relevant tabs to answer.
Agent Mode
Sometimes you want your Companion to take actions, not just answer questions. This is Agent Mode.
In Agent Mode, your Companion can:
- Click buttons and links
- Fill out forms
- Navigate between pages
- Complete multi-step tasks
For example:
- "Fill out this form with my information"
- "Add this item to my cart"
- "Find and book the cheapest flight to New York next Friday"
Your Companion will ask for confirmation before taking significant actions, so you stay in control.
Sharing Companions and Chats
You can share useful conversations or Companion setups with others:
- Share a chat — Send a link to a specific conversation
- Share a Companion — Let someone else use a Companion you have configured
This is useful for teams or for sharing a particularly helpful exchange.
